A Flipped Perspective
Emmanuel was a song that pieced itself together in the matter of an evening. In the midst of watching many dear friends face horrible circumstances, I was reminded of the best gift- Emmanuel, God with us. I watched friends bury friends, daughters taking care of sick mamas, mamas having to bury their sweet newborns, all of this on top of tremendous genocide and martyring taking place overseas. Our world seems to get crazier as time ticks by and it can feel frightening, depressing, and empty because of the uncertainty and pain that surrounds us. I found (and continually find) my peace and my certainty in Jesus' presence and hope. He flipped my perspective from judgment to mercy, from death to eternal life, from burdened to weightless and free, from weakness to strength- all because of Jesus.
His Sweet Presence
Hope for our world was restored in my heart because of the man who came to right every wrong. If He believes in us and loves us enough to die a horrible death, how could I lose hope? He's crazy about brightening our hearts in the darkness and chasing away our doubts. He came and proved the greatest love and greatest devotion by dying an unfair death just so that we may be WITH Him, walk WITH Him, and receive the comfort of His Spirit and presence. When we wrestle through the realities of our world- cancer, death, prejudice, genocide, murder, etc.- all we really need to do is to cry out, "Emmanuel!". We have to claim His name in faith- sing it until you believe it!!! His presence is our peace, our lot, our everything. He never despises our brokenness, he never looks down on our weakness, but with strong arms, he scoops us up to strengthen us with the comfort and joy of His sweet presence.
The hope of Emmanuel, God With Us
I pray that whatever pains you carry this holiday season, you continually cry out to your Emmanuel! I pray that your heart would not be overcome by pain but that you would be strengthened in His presence as you cling to who He is- PRESENT. He is FULLY present, FULLY available to you, and FULLY patient. His mercy willingly overlooks your every shortcoming, your darkest choices. He is here to be your every comfort and strength. You need only come. Your hope is not forgot, it is found in Him- He has a good plan, a good purpose, and He promises hope for your future. Hope is never lost, it rests in our Emmanuel!
